Sunflowers are so easy to grow and provide striking colour and enjoyment for children and adults alike. There are so many colours to choose from such as the classic ‘Sunflower Giant Single’ to the red ‘Moulin Rouge.’
Sow sunflower seeds directly into the ground or in pots March to May. If sowing in pots use Surestart Seed & Cutting Compost. If sowing directly incorporate organic matter such as organic Farmyard Manure or Westland Multi-Purpose Compost with added John Innes before sowing or planting out.
Plant in well drained soil in full sun.
Most varieties of sunflower will require staking to prevent damage occurring.
Feed using Nutri All Purpose Plant Food.
When plants are small protect from slug damage using Eraza Slug and Snail Killer.
Check growing points and flower beds regularly for aphids and at the first sign of attack treat with Plant Rescue Ready To Use for Ornamentals.
