Spread the word on wildlife in your garden and you could help reverse the trend of declining populations and habitat loss, according to the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB). They want you to talk to friends, family and neighbours about the wildlife in your garden in the hope that people will get together to link gardens into Britain’s biggest wildlife sanctuary.
A survey carried out by the RSPB found almost three-quarters of us haven’t spoken to our neighbours about how they can help wildlife in the garden – even though about the same number agree that it’s important to encourage the wild creatures who visit our back yards.
Just over a quarter of people surveyed said they worked with their neighbour to help wildlife pass between gardens through innovations such as hedgehog holes in the fence, allowing grass to grow long or planting hedges.
You’ll find plenty in our garden centre for encouraging wildlife to make the most of your garden, from purpose-made hotels for solitary bees, toads, ladybirds or hedgehogs, to wildflower mixes for planting a nectar-rich meadow. Come on in and talk to our knowledgeable staff about making your garden more wildlife-friendly – then encourage your neighbours to do the same!
