The eggs are laid beneath the soil surface by the adult weevil and the larvae hatch out and devour the roots of the plants. They are often a problem in patio containers where susceptible plants such as Busy Lizzies, Primulas, Fuchsias and Begonias are frequently found. Control is tricky as these pests are now widespread in gardens nationwide. The use of fresh compost in containers each season is essential to avoid overwintering populations from attacking newly planted plants.
