Fruit and vegetables require lots of nutrients from compost.
This is because their plants not only need to be strong and healthy, they also need to taste good too which places more demands on the compost used to grow them in.
Whether you are growing a few carrots in a container, or enough vegetables on your allotment to stock your local supermarket, here are a few tips for picking the perfect compost:
Growing in containers
If you want to grow a few vegetables or fruit for the first time, or have limited space in your garden, try growing in a pot, container or a planter instead.
Most fruit and vegetables can be grown in a container with a little imagination, including carrots, potatoes, lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, chillies and herbs.
For pots and containers, fill with plenty of Gro-Sure Vegetable Growing Compost to ensure enough nutrient levels.
For an easy option, grow directly into one of our specialist planters, such as Gro-Sure Tomato Planter, or Gro-Sure Fruit and Vegetable Planter.
If space is an issue, our Gro-Sure Tomato Gro-Pack is designed for one plant and can fit neatly on a small patio or balcony.

Growing in the ground
If you’re growing fruit and vegetables in the ground, it’s important to dig lots of Gro-Sure Farmyard Manure, or Gro-Sure Vegetable Growing Compost into the soil.
This will improve the levels of nutrients in the ground, ensuring your baby plants get off to a flying start.
