Our History

The Simpson's family have worked on the land for generations. Peter's father was a farm manager and his mother cut flowers for Covent Garden. Peter left school in 1972 and started work at a local tree nursery. He suplemented his income by growing flowers on his employers land and after a couple of years started growing trees himself which he sold on local markets and to other nurseries.

As production increased Peter's employers allowed him to work part time and devote more time to the fledging business. His wife, Sandra, continued to work full time and help with the business outside of office hours.

In 1987 Michael was born and the partnership of PC & SL Simpson's Nursery was formally established. Son number two, David, arrived in 1989. The retail centre started in a very small way in Station Road on what was the back garden of Peter's parents.

Eventually Peter and Sandra moved into the property at 42 Station Road with their three sons. Nicholas was the latest arival in 1992.

Over the years the site has developed and the range of trees and shrubs has increased.

The Nursery continues to supply many independent Garden Centres countrywide with fruit and ornamental trees and growing our own trees and shrubs remains an integral part of our business.

Our perennials and bedding plants are purchased from local suppliers in East Angelia. Every year Peter and his manager Clinton travel to Ireland to individually label the Christmas Trees which he sells, along with his own stock. From late November Peter and eldest son Michael also make visits to Italy, Belgium and Holland to buy more unusual stock for the Garden Centre.

The whole family continue to be fully involved with the Nursery. Now in their 20's each of the sons play important roles.

More recent developments include our canopied area which protects our plants and customers from the unpredictable British weather.

Another Favourite is our lovely Coffee Shop well worth a visit for breakfast, lunch or tasty snack.
